Best way to get rid of snake eggs in the backyard?

While weeding a few minutes ago, i came across a patch of about 15 snake eggs (likely from the black racer we've seen around the yard before).

Whats the recommended method for getting rid of these? I have a preserve area across the canal behind our house, so I guess i could shovel them up and put them over there

I'd keep them, but I guess moving them to a safe place would work too. I don't think they require parental supervision, so they should be ok unless they get eaten.

its right in an area where we play with our nieces and nephews, and walk the dogs. I'd rather not have to share the space with snakes.

rat snakes are the greatest pest control for your property. I'd say deposit them in your crawl space and let them live happily under there once they hatch. Black racers aren't any kind of threat to your family or your pets.

If they're moved, they might need to be oriented properly. I think that's the case with some, if not all, reptile eggs - if they're rotated after being laid, something goes wrong that can kill the embryo.

Or else take them carefully inside and keep them properly incubated until they hatch. Then there's the fun surprise of finding out whether or not they're venomous. 😉

Bingo!

Those racers will scare you but they are harmless. When they see you they will get out of the way no reason not to share with them. Its not like they are copperhead eggs.

no they arent, decon poison bait is the best pest control. Plus there would be no fricken way i would let a clutch of snake eggs hatch under my house. yes i have a phobia of snakes i dont care if they are poisonous or non poisonous just keep them away from me and my house.

It is a good indication that your area have lots of snake foods such as rats & insects.

I would put them in a safer area because they are good at pests control.

haha. BS.

You only want to believe that because you are a girly man terrified by harmless critters that are actually more afraid of you than you are of them.

i would leave them alone. maybe take some in and when they hatch keep them as pets. racers are neat snakes to have. they aren't afraid of you sitting there and will come out.

if nothing else they will keep the rodent population down. wish i had a few around where i live.

just because you are afraid of snakes does not make what you say true.

a few snakes around the property will keep the rodent population down. far better then any rap poison will ever do.
