I know some of you folks get pretty damn good deal.

But how about for a new customer? I'm not talking about just regular deals you see for everyone. Are there tip/tricks for getting a cheap pkg?

I just want TV and internet.

FIOS is usually pretty consistent with their pricing. I got some deal last year only because of a pricing error on the website (very rare). It's pretty good now, you can get $300 visa card. That only runs like 2 times a year.

In my experience you still need to know how to deal with these types of companies and be somewhat informed of their packages before you sign up for anything.

My mom wanted to switch from Time Warner to FIOS and the first question they ask is how much she was paying now. She didn't know any better and told them, so they basically built a package for her around what she was paying currently to TWC, which was close to $250 a month. She ended up getting frustrated and just stuck with Time Warner.

I called them back recently and got them to drop it down to about $150, because their original package they were offering her was with quantum internet and whole house DVR, neither of which were things she even wanted, but she didn't understand the difference in the internet speeds.

Over the last 6 years I've switched between Dish, TWC and FIOS after each intro contract ends and find they all try to screw you when you sign up. And they all love to rush you into a contract. They will basically schedule someone to be there and install it before you even realize what happened.

I just want TV and internet.
That's all I wanted when I signed up for FIOS, but it was cheaper to get the triple play bundle rather than just have TV and Internet. What sucks is when you do this, they are obligated to install the phone, even though you don't want it. I got in an argument with the installer, and he basically said he couldn't do the install without installing the phone, which requires extra equipment. My closet has a couple of boxes in it (I'm assuming a UPS and some kind of phone line converter). They ended up drilling 3 or 4 holes in the house for all the coax. And after 1.5 years I've never even activated the phone. I was a little annoyed with that.

I usually wait until their QMP (Quarterly Market Penetration) reports are being finished up, which is generally right around the 10th week of any given fiscal quarter.

When calling to schedule the installation, make sure you speak with a RAS (Regional Area Supervisor), as they are authorized to play with the margin in your account, as opposed to a regular Verizon CSR.

You want to try to schedule the install for the end of the 11th week, when the pressure is really on for them to hit their numbers.

Once the tech is at your house, let him know that you spoke to a Supervisor beforehand, and promptly suck his dick dry. Works like a charm.

Good luck.

Damn good info from y'all, but actual tips or 'magic phrases' to get better deals?

I want one of those $20-30 off/month for a year that some members in Slickdeals manage to get.

I think the standard price for double play is $79.99 for TV and Internet (not Quantum)

IDK if this is even a deal or if the per month savings and $300 gift card are standard...but a quick glance found this, which seems to be on most promo code sites:

Here is my experience on Fios. 2 years ago I signed up to get that hot deal that would give me triple play with a $500 visa gifts card + the fast internet and all HD channels. I had to do a 2 year contract to get this deal. With the $500 card the price I was going to get was would have been like $89 a month, hell of a deal. When I was with comcast I was paying over $150+ with slower internet speed.

Well I never got the $500 visa card. I called them up like 8 months later asking where the card was and they said I never replied to the E-mail and some how got a free DVR instead. This was total BS because the deal included a free DVR. I must have argued with this guy for 20 mins on the phone. I asked to talk to his supervisor and he said that they would not be able to do anything and would not transfer me to his supervisor. I was like WTF. They ripped me off the $500.

Also my modem died back in summer and I had to get a new one. I called Fios up and we did all the tests and they would over night a new modem. Well a week goes by and no modem so I call back and they said it was shipped and they had a tracking number for UPS and said I needed to call them. So I call UPS and they tell me they track it 5 states away and then after that it seems to be lost. They told me I might need to do a lost report but Fios would have to do the report I'm like WTF. So I call back Fios and tell them what is going on. I asked them if there was somewhere I can drop this off and get a new modem. I found out there is one location in all of Western PA and it was like 10 miles from my house.

I drop off the old modem and get a new one and hook it up. 2 months later the bill has a $99 charge that not part of the regular bill. I'm like WTF is this BS. Call Fios up and they said that the charge was for not returning the old modem. OH hell ya I did return the modem and said you better fix this. I tell him what happen because the one modem you sent never showed and had to go to the location to get a new one and took it with me. He said he needed to call someone at that location and get some info. He could never get anyone and then just dropped the charge.

I'm going back to comcast. They are giving me the best deal I ever had. How I got this deal is they where going door to door and I told him I was thinking about going back to comcast. He cut me a deal even better then what Fios could do. I get all the HD channels, free HBO, free install, free DVR. $20 to drop the contract of Fios, $100 for one free month, and no contact for $105. The guy gave me his cell number and said if that price changes at all during the year then give call him and he will fix that price.

In the end both comcast and fios are about the same in the produce you get. Both give about the same HD channels and about the same in internet speed. So what ever one can give you the better deal is the one you should go with. Where it gets bad is when there is a problem and they seem to not fix it right away when it is either a bad line or maybe a router or server on their end. They always want to put the blame on the user when it clearly not the problem. Before I switched to Fios I had a good 6 year run of 0 problems. Then the internet dropped for over a week and I had tech guy at my house twice and they could not fix the problem. That is when I started to look at switching because at that time I was not sure when they were going to fix my internet.

For us we have options so we just switch from 1 to the other.

The thing about Fios is, kinda like what Jeffg010 said, is to save all your receipts and deal offers.
Verzion always messed up the Fios bill and acted like the offer we signed up for never existed. Luckily we saved the flyer so just e-mailed that to them at least 4-5 times a year. Dropped them and went with Cox for internet. Then dropped them when they raised rates and back to Fios.
