Best Way to get an audio tape onto a CD?

i need to get an audio tape onto a cd. i will be using a tape recorder into the mic in on the sound card. what software that is free do i need to make it a .wav so i can burn it to a cd?

Check out GoldWave. It's shareware with some restictions but I've had good luck with it.
Just record one continuous Wav file and cut it in smaller pieces.

I haven't done this in a while but...

I did used the program built in to EasyCD at the time. It would record a wav file and then detect silence and automatically cut the tracks. I think the current burning software packages still have features similar to this. I will check my nero tonight. Warning: Don't try this method with something like Pink Floyd "The Wall." You will get more tracks than you can shake a stick at. :)

Otherwise, you could get a free audio editor like audacity and cut the tracks yourself.

Personally, I use a simple stereo DJ-type tape deck that I got from the Shack years ago plugged in to my line-in.

I know it isn't much, but I hope that helps.

thanks for the info, in fact i don't need to cut the songs into different tracks, just one lone song.
