Best way to get a phone for europe?

I was wondering what is the best way to have a cell phone over there? My current cell phone does not support GSM. Are there cheap phones available here online or something that I could take over there (to spain) and buy minutes or something?

Anyone with tips please offer some advice!

Not sure about where you are going specifically, but in France there are lots of little cell-phone stores where you can buy a phone and pre-paid card for like 70 euros.

How does a SIM card work? I have to physically put something in there and then it gets service/prepaid minutes?

From what I understand, they can be purchased when you get to your destination. Just drop the card in the phone as it is prepaid and you are good to go...

The phone I have is a Moto v551 and is quad band...

Yup. Sometimes you have to call a number to activate it or something. Usually you can find a phone shop at the airport or main train station to buy the SIM. Just make sure it is unlocked.

I'll send you the phone and I have a European charger for it I think...when you get back from the trip, send it back🙂

I LOVE this forum. Countless issues have been solved.

You should look at prepaidgsm.net for more detailed information. They have info on specific service providers and also forums if you want more specific answers. Also, the service you choose depends on if you're going to just one country or more than one.
