i've been using my keyboard for about 8 months without cleaning it. before it was shiny white, now it's sort of an off-white colour. it's obvious that its dirty, but what's the best way to get the casing/keys gleaming white again? anything in particular to use? or will warm/soapy water do just fine? (after taking the keyboard apart of course :p )

thx in advance

yep, soap and water works wonders...just give it adequate drying time and it'll be fine

my roomate used to soak his in the bathtub every now and then...but that might be a little extreme :)

what ever you do dont be stupid like me and use brake cleaners to try and make it super white, because it does get super white but other then that it peels the plastic out of it and the letters on the keyboard will vanish

Buy a new one. j/k

They have some type of clean like windex, pledge, etc, that comes in a blue bottle that's designed for plastic electronics like tv's, stereos, computers. Should clean your keyboard pretty good.

Propanol will make it look brand new, it might rub the lettering off the keys if you rub long enough, so be careful.

Radio Shack Cleaner-Degreaser should be safe on plastics, but for less money there's CRC Electronics Parts Cleaner at hardware and auto parts stores.

Don't use soap and water on a keyboard that contains a flexible circuit board because they will become trapped between the two layers of plastic.

Just buy a new one ;) They are what $10? $15?
:p

But if you have a rather expensive keyboard, you can get electronics cleaner from radio shack or any similar store.

Just give it a good licking. Alternately you can put some cream on it and let the cat at it...their tongue is coarser than ours.

Stick it in the disk washer. No, I'm not kidding. Make sure the dishwasher is clean and there are no other dirty things in there. (I stuck it in with the plates once and got food suck behind the keys!)

Then, give it ample drying time. You might even want to open it up to allow it to dry faster.

Don't blame me if it never works again. Every now and again I do get failers, but I figure the $15 for a new keyboard is nothing considering the time I save.

I put mine in the dishwasher. Just unscrew the top part(with the keys)and put it in the dishwasher before you go to school or work and when you come back it should be dry and shiny white again.

I used to live in res at university and every week or so some dumbass (or myself) would spill a beer or rum&coke or anything else possible onto my keyboard.

The next day I'd soak it in the bathtub for an hour, take it out and let it dry off on my heater. It was good to go within a day! I must have do this at least 5 times.

buy a black one?

spray paint it white...white it out...use water and some sort of cleaner...illuminate it until it appears white....etc.
