Best way to get a free credit check?

JTsyo

Lifer
I co-signed on a car loan and they been late on a few payments. I want to see how it's affecting my rating.

That one is free, will give you all three reports. But you're not going to get your score on them. I think they charge like 5 bucks or something, never really checked on the score part. People are fools though if they don't visit that site once a year.

OP asked for "free" credit check. There is no way you can get free FICO credit score (exceptions with some circumstances such as being turned down with a job and other adverse actions).

To see how it is affecting his rating, wouldn't he need to know the score? Just showing that it's on there doesnt tell you how bad its affecting it.

That's my thought as well. These credit checks are good for finding out if somebody stole your identity and are doing things under your name, but it won't quantify how banks and such will rate you credit-wise.

If he really wants to know the score and not just the report, then he will have to pay for it. I know no such thing as free credit score (FICO), with a few exceptions as mentioned before.

MyFico.com is the one to check if he wants to know the score and pay for it (at least $20 a pop).

While they're a good "generalized" service and will get you in the ballpark, their credit SCORE is very inaccurate, even more so that it's based off TransUnion, which is the least used scoring service on the market (Experian is #1 and Equifax is #2 in terms of scores used by agencies looking to extend you credit). Expect CreditKarma's score to be off by ~50 points in either direction.

Dude, why do you keep underlining and making stuff bold? All I was originally saying was the link you gave just shows the report, not the score, he was going to have to pay extra for the score.

Are you simple?

JT, lesson learned, I hope. NEVER cosign with anyone. Not even or especially family.

It gets repo-ed and you drop 100 points.

Because I like it that way.

As I said, OP asked for "free" information. I gave it to him.

If he wants to get the score, then he will have to pay, and I gave the information to him too.

Are you simple? 😛

Just seeing the report and late payments should be good. Thanks for the link.

Yea, I should have known better. He wasted a ton of money leasing two high end cars then went to buy the current one. Payments are $800/mth, that's almost half my mortgage. Guy's a stand up guy though, other than trying to keep up with the Jones. Know he would help if I was in a tight spot.

EDIT looked up the numbers was $800/month

Lol... that's just about 2x MY mortgage!

Your not getting your score for free, go to myfico.com and pony up. Google for codes and you can get 20% off pretty easy.

$1400/mo on a car??????? DAYUM. What is it?

Just remember it was a 7 series, used. I figured since previously he was making the payments on the other 2, this would not be a issue. It won't be repoed. I rather pay it off and have him pay me.

Wowzers... depreciation on those cars is insane. He's probably upside down on it already.

Brilliant!

Ways to get a free FICO score:
1) Get turned down for credit (crap shoot because you won't know until afterwards what scoring system they use to evaluate you)
2) Wait for one of those promotions from myfico.com (very rare)
3) Sign up for the one month free trial at myfico.com (just don't the trial period lapse)
4) Certain banks/credit unions/credit cards will give out FICO scores with membership

PM me your social security number, address, work info. I will apply for some loans and let you know within 30-40 points of what your credit score is.

Got my credit score from my bank when trying to refinance.
735-748 with two late payments on the car loan.
