Best way to fight spam on Exchnage Server 2003?

i know google is my friend...i've found a lot there but I want some personal opinions from users here and not companies trying to sell me their products listed on google! 🙂

For the money, I would set up a gateway server to handle both the antivirus and anti spam. I like the multi-layered approach when dealing with the WAN and it's nasties.

I'm currently playing with Microsofts Intelligent Message Filter which is actually working pretty well is seems. I agree that having a gateway server would be much better though and I might look into doing that!

I've used freebsd + postfix + spamassassin + razor + pyzor + dcc and it does a ridiculously good job. Toss in some simple scripting to keep the mailboxes between the mailservers in synch and you have a WAN & enterprise ready mail solution.
