I live about 1.6 miles away from work. Biking takes about 10 minutes but is more strenuous while walking takes about half an hour. Which one burns more calories/gives a better workout?
pretty much. 10 minute bike ride will barely get your heart up... and you need to keep it going to get a decent workout. part of the reason why I don't do it.. the other part is i'm too lazy 🙂
If you walk or run the same distance you burn the same amount of calories.
Work=Work
There are cardio benefits to running that you don't get with walking.
Biking has a 10X mechanical advantage over walking or running therefore you are only doing 1/10 the work if you bike you will get some slight cardio benefit.
A good power walk would be best. . .
For that distance, a brisk walk is most likely a better "exercise". My suggestion is to bike to work directly and take a very long route back after work. The time you saved by not walking can turn into a real bike ride after work that way.
