Spare me the one word "WordPress" answers.
I want a front portal page for posting general community news and aggregating important news from the topical sites. I will then have at least 3 topical sites, each with their own theme. All 4 "sites" should share user login info and it would be nice to have forum integration as well. I've considered WordPress and something like SMF/SimplePortal, and am open to other suggestions. It would also be nice if instead of news posts having comments sections it created and linked to a forum post for discussion instead.
What's the best way to achieve all this. On WordPress, would you do something like 4 separate installs with just one database?
