Best way to cure a problem with black flies?

At my brother in laws house, they've got a problem with black flies really bad. I've come over and chased a few of them down with a can of raid (wow do those suckers drop fast when hit) and eliminated all I could find the day I was over there. Problem is, it's like night of the living dead flies or something. We kill like 2 dozen and another 2 dozen pop up to take their place. They appear to be common black flies and I can't find anything that they'd be nesting in (aka laying eggs) or where they'd be coming from outside. They're typical garden variety black house flies in my book. Same kind you always expect to see.

Any good way I can help him get rid of them without bug bombing the entire house? He's got kids in the house and I don't think raid'ing all the flys is a good idea, even if it does work good.

Find the source. Could be something in your kitchen, old food or fruit. They can also nest in some plants, find the source and get rid of it. You could bomb but its a pain in the butt and its nasty after words.

get rid of all food that isn't in the fridge or canned, take out all the trash, run the garbage disposal, and don't eat in for a week

maybe some plants in the house? my mom always puts the plants outside and puts em back in.... but she also brings in a crap load of bugs too. yep.

Get a fly pen and draw on every window, and look for any source of attraction in the house for them. You and a can of raid is effective, but if they touch a window with fly pen on it they also die, saving you a job of chasing round the house all the time.

i usually find a dead animal infested with maggots when this happens. those damned cats are always leaving presents around

Takes about two weeks of catching the buggers but eventually you get them all.
