BEST way to create DVD slideshows of digital pics

Any thoughts on the best way to go about creating a DVD with images from my digital camera? I've got Roxio Media Creator 7, so I've tried going that route but I'm not terribly impressed with the results -- it works, but the images are all 5+ megapixels and don't show up quite as nice on the screen -- and they get recropped to fill the screen when it would be better to view them letterbox. Not sure what other products there are out there, but the main points are that I want to save as much quality from the pictures as possible, and I'd like to be able to add background music. Transitions and other effects like that are a bonus but not terribly important.

I use Proshow Gold. Beautiful results! It does the pan-and-scan effect, along with transitions and stuff. Very smooth. You can add music and titles too. The DVDs look like something PBS would do.
