Best way to copy smaller SSD to larger SSD

I scored a 1tb Samsung 860 for $152.99+tax (yeah, you read that right) which is being delivered this Saturday. What is the best way to copy my existing 256gb SSD over to this one? The new 1tb will be my boot/everything drive.

If you have all the boot files on your current SSD you can just clone it over using something like Macrium Reflect. This will create a 1:1 image of your current drive. I did it when I transferred my OS install from an 860 evo to a 970 pro. Worked fine.

I have done that by using proportional cloning via bootable TI-18 (Acronis).

Thanks guys, ya'll have giving me several options to think about. It looks like the Samsung software may be the path of least resistance.

It looks like the samsung magician software is basically malware so I wound up using macrium trial version. Everything went smoothly and only took about 1.5-2 hours to clone a nearly full 256gb ssd to the 1tb ssd.

????

Where did you download it from?

The first time I ever heard that as well. 😵

I guess whatever antivirus program they use popped up a false positive, or they were not downloading it from a legit site.

Samsung Magician is their drive health utility, Samsung Data Migration is their cloning program.

Only if you download it from shady-scamware-site.com instead of Samsung.
