Best way to copy a HDD?

Can I just use the copy command in DOS? Should I?
Can I get windows backup to do it for me?

I'm running win2k, and just got my RMA back, so I need to copy that data.

Well if you can't get a copy of ghost, most hard drive manufacturers have a hard disk copy program available for free download at their website. Try using one of those. I recently used Western Digital's version and it worked just fine.

I think Xcopy32 works great too. I just trust the imaging programs a little more. Plus, I'm lazy as hell and prefer a GUI. 😉

Considering xcopy and copy are DOS programs that don't support over the 8.3 file format, I wouldn't trust them with anything nowadays.

I agree with ltk007 about the, um *cough warez cough*. If you need a *cough warez cough* site PM me and I'll see if I can find one.

BTW, Partition Magic is the best IMHO.

another vote for Norton Ghost.... besides, it's pretty easy to find an OEM copy of it (for cheap or free), so i would say that gives it the edge over warez.

Hard Drive mitosis. Just put them close together in a pool of water, and give them 3 or 4 hours.

🙂

NO NO! DON'T DO THAT! xcopy

Xcopy won't fully work correctly in Windows 2000 (at least from a clean command prompt), trust me, I've tried 🙂.

You can download a demo version of ghost enterprise off the symantec site. I have run ito some problems with xcopy32 before but if you feel the need to use it try scandisk, defrasg then going to start, run and type xcopy32 /c /h /e /r /k /y /f and this should start it up with some pretty useful switches.
