i have the belkin tunecast for my ipod mini/nano and it works great. why not an FM transmitter? since my car has a 9-volt outlet inside the center console my ipod gets nicely hidden as well.

i do agree that the sound is mono i think. CD's sound better but it's not worth the hassle of putting in a new deck and ruin my stock cd player. you'd figure the only reason that they don't put a line-in into stereos is because they want you to spend $1500 on whatever sat-nav 40gb mp3 deck that they're pushing...

I have PIE-TOY adapter for my Toyota Corolla. Cost $50 or $60 about a year ago. Was the BEST thing I could have ever done for my iPod. Had the FM transmitter and the difference was night and day. The adapter I have took an AUX in, so I could plug in my iPod, Cell phone, Sat Radio, etc....

You can buy a cheap aftermarket deck that will not only out perform the stock HU but many of them will have an aux input. The question is why not replace the stock HU?

Edit-I have a Pioneer in my Maxima and it is so much better than the factory deck in every way. I threw that boat anchor factory stereo in the trash where it belongs.

I highly recommend Pioneer.
