Best way to clone and upgrade a 2011 MBP to SSD?

I've done the same thing...with a mid-2009 MBP, it's quite easy. Used carbon copy cloner...to make a replica of the OEM HDD drive and copied it to an external drive. Then removed the OEM drive, replaced it with the SSD, and restarted while holding the option key down and selected the external drive to boot from. Then just copied over the system files to the new SSD drive...

If you have an external enclosure, install the SSD in it and simply clone the OEM drive to the enclosed SSD. Then swap the SSD for the OEM drive and reboot.

The easiest way is to make sure time machine has run a backup recently (if you have a time capsule set up, you're good to go), take the old drive out, put the new drive in, boot from the OSX DVD or USB key, and select restore from backup. Point to the time machine and let it do its thing.

I have an adapter that can turn any sata drive into a usb drive. I did that with carbon copy. Worked great.

What's wrong with Carbon Copy Cloner. Always worked fast for me.
