Best way to clean pet stains from carpet (every stain imagineable!)?

My oldest cat has recently taken ill, and decided to let me know by leaving many presents, of various types, all over the carpet.

Any idea how I can *completely* clean this up, and neutralize the odor? It's probably soaked in by now, so I need something that can do some serious cleaning.

Thanks much.

Yah, but I need a solution, even if it's temporary. My cats get territorial if they get any hint of said stains, and it will just keep getting worse.

Febreeze is supposed to be good for odors, but a deep cleaning carpet vac would probably be the best idea.

You might also try oxyclean.

As you might imagine with 12 cats and 2 dogs we have some experience with this. :Q We use Simple Solution and OxyClean. We also have one of those small Bissel carpet cleaners for the spot cleaning as well as a regular Bissel carpet shampooer.

"Spot Shot" is the best I have seen for cleaning small areas...even after they have set in.

It's about $3-4 a can.

Seltzer water followed by vinegar if you get it right away. The vinegar neutralizes the odor. Sometimes you don't find these "gifts" right away. We have this blue stuff at home (its a homemade recipe) but i'll see if I can find out what it is...anyways, it works really well.

After you steam clean your carpet, you often loose the stain resistant treatment alot of carpets have so they are harder to get out afterwards.

Try using soda, salt & water to clean up the stains. If you try removing them immediately, they Will go! :)
