Best way to clean a black car?

I was just given a black Mercury Marauder from my father after I passed my road test (He bought himself a brand new blue Marauder). He has had it since February and put 12000 miles on it. It has been in one minot accident (nothing major, just the wheel has a scratch and the bottom of passenger-side rear quarterpanel has a scuff from it). Now, on to my question. As everyone knows, with a black paint job, swirls are so easy to see (even after normal waxing). What is the best way to get these swirls out, or mask them?

Yep. Or, you could do it yourself with some very light polishing compound.

Swirls and most scratches are in the topcoat/clearcoat and can be buffed-out.

I've had a black car and a dark green car. PITA to keep looking good.

car wash with car soap etc. then use those 3 step system cleaner/polish/wax etc. first two get rid of oxidation and buff out minor scratches a little. i only use the first most abrasive? step everyonce in a while. i'm lazy, most of the time i just put the wax on by itself if i do it often enough that the car isn't totally mucked up. theres meguiars and zaino for the 3 step systems.

wax in straight motions, not swirls.. whcih will um swirl :)

That was uncalled for. I am 17 anyway. But, that was still not called for. I asked a question, and did not deserve that. If my father wanted to give me a car, that was his perogative. I would gladly have went out and bought one for myself.

To all those who posted seriously: Thanks for the suggestions so far, keep them coming.

all i can say is waaaaaaaaaaah

I have a Black 1967 Camaro RS
wash it with good car wash soap, like Mequiars;etc
use a good cleaner polish like zymol, mequiars, etc

Drive careful;and take the car to a car show/car cruise, and show it to others, not a lot of those cars around!

The first "real" cleaner-wax. Because of petrol-solvent limitations cleaning and waxing combination products have had a history of either cleaning or waxing but not doing both very well. We have developed an all natural Cleaner-Wax that we are
very excited about.....because it works! Uniform polishing agents clean and repair minor paint blemishes, scratches and abrasions without petrol solvents while imparting a brilliant coat of natural waxes to protect your finish.
Using a clean applicator or a small terrycloth towel, apply a generous amount of Cleaner Wax evenly to a two or three square foot section with a straight-line, side-to-side movement.
Note: Do not use a circular motion when spreading Cleaner Wax.
Work Cleaner Wax into the finish with a medium to heavy pressure until the surface becomes slightly tacky.
Gently buff with a clean zymöl Micro-Wipe? to reveal the true, clean finish of your car (the paint feels silky smooth).
Can be used with an Orbital Buffer and Wool Pad.

i bought some Zymol at k-marts,it was like $8.99 on sale.. Advance Auto parts carries it too!

I suppose you would've told your dad "Fvck you I'm going to go work at McDonald's and buy my sh!tbox. You can keep the keys".

Sorry, envious people piss me off.

Being spoiled though is not having a lot, it's being ungrateful of what you have.

Thank you. Those are the words I wish I could have produced myself.

Thanks for the help. I'll go to a local PepBoys, or a place like that and pick up the Meguires. I know what you mean. There are barely any Marauders around. I think if i saw two others (except for my families two) that was a lot. They are a beautiful car though.

You ought to work on your reading comprehension - I never said he shouldn't have taken it, or that I resented him for being spoiled. All I said was that spoiled kids piss people off - it's a fact of life that he'll have to live with. People will resent him for being 17 and driving an expensive car.

As for what I WOULD do if my parents wanted to give me an expensive car when I was 17? I'd thank them for offering to buy me a car, but opt for a less expensive car. Being given an expensive car at such a young age teaches kids nothing about responsibility and the value of money. I think the experience of buying a car yourself is really beneficial.

KraziKid, are you at least paying for insurance?

I am not sure. I believe my parents are covered so I do not have to be listed yet. Also, I was given this car out of the blue, no warning. I was looking at cheap Honda's and things like that with my father. He gave me this car because a) It's American (he is a patriot, and buys nearly everything American.) b) He wouldn't have gotten a good deal on a trade in (would have gotten about $5000 more than a Honda), and a few others.

Well I can't say for sure that's EXACTLY what I would have done, but I'm a pretty responsible person and generally sensible with money... I've never really liked having my parents spend money on me.

KraziKid, sorry I upset you so much over my light-hearted comment, I was mearly mimicking what many ATOT'ers were thinking when they read your thread.
