I have 7,000, and need a nice size, reliable used car. Where is the best place to get a car, a private dealer (auto trader or newspaper), an Auction, carmax, or a car dealer?

I mean I've done some research but man there are so many options and so many people out to rip you off. If there is anyone out there with experience that can help me?

I don't know about Florida, but NY has a lemon law for used cars if you buy one from a dealer. If it's a private deal between two people, then make sure you have your mechanic check it out first.

91 cars and trucks to choose from

Before you do anything ask if it's a SALVAGED TITLE? If they say yes, do not buy it unless it's DIRT cheap and you never plan on selling it again.

Run a carfax.

Have a trusted mechanic check out the car or truck before buying it.

CarMax isn't a bad choice, as they certify their used cars and their inventory can be searched online. I bought a used truck from a new car dealership, and they pulled the Carfax report for me during negotiations. In my experience there's more leeway for negotiating price with new car dealerships than with a place like CarMax. One big thing to keep a lookout for is rental cars that are now being sold. This would clearly be stated in the carfax report... I personally wouldn't want to spend money on a car that has seen 100s of different drivers who don't give a #$&% about the vehicle they're driving..
