Hey all

I got quite sick last night, sore throat, slight nausea, a lot of head congestion and headache as well as a 39.9 fever which apparently is like 103 on that other scale. Anyway what are the best ways to bring a fever down, it broke last night at about 330 but I think it's coming back. Thanks.

Put a cold wash cloth on your face, get into bed, and take some aspirin.

Drink a LOT of liquids, mainly water, or something with electrolytes in it like gatorade or powerade.

And just chill out, don't go anywhere

If you don't have a problem with asprin, it works far better than Tylenol for a fever.

Hope you feel better, soon. :)

Yes take tylenol, asprin or advil. Drink lots of fluids(water, gatorade). Stay in a cool area with a cool washcloth on your forehead. Take a cold shower if you feel it will help. Get plenty of rest, and if the fever persists visit a doctor.

Aspirin a better antipyretic than acetaminophen? Since when?

Oh, and if you don't have any Tylenol handy, Magnum357, Motrin (ibuprofen) works almost as well...

You've got to cool your body down. The best way to do that is to lie in a bathtub of cool water. It's going to feel like your bathing in Antarctica, but eventually it will feel like lukewarm water. That's when you'll know that your fever is gone. Also, like the others said, take Aspirin or Tylenol (acetaminophen) and drink plenty of fluids.

The worst thing you can do is dress yourself in full clothes and\or lie in bed with blankets on. All that will do is raise your body temperature even more.

Edit: Also, if your fever persists, or gets any higher, go see a doctor. That's a strong sign of infection.

Thanks a lot guys, when I said it broke last night at 330 I meant 3:30 AM. Thanks again, I always get a renewed faith in humanity from these boards when I need help.

Use rubbing alcohol on the washcloth. Will work better than cool water.

As others have stated above, get the body cooled down quickly, Cool bath after a wipe down.

IF it stays high above 104, get to a doctor, 106 will start to fry your brains and no more useful Neffinf will happen.:p

Useful neffing? Isn't that an oxymoron?
