So I'm going to start a web hosting company. I have the server and billing system picked out, it's just a matter of getting enough clients.

Any ideas?

adwords
overture
webhosting talk

your best methods will be word of mouth/referals and good SERP positions
put your time into SEO and customer care and everything else will fall into place.

Local advertising is what I'd reccomend :)

I'm actually getting into the local market now myself.

Web hosting services are a dime a dozen, try to target your local market.

Overture and google may not be the best choice for you if you are looking to start small CPC on google and overture are far too high for web hosting and related keywords. Try the smaller search engines like Findwhat etc. PM me if you need any help.

Great advice and that's what I do.

I target the local web hosting market, specifically small businesses. No regional or corporate businesses which probably already have their own web site.

Give them FTP and email only access using cPanel's xmail skin. Since I only offer FTP and e-mail, I get maybe 4 support tickets a week.

50MB/1GB for $19.95/mo paid quarterly or $24.95 per month.

With the right business plan, marketing and dedication - anything is possible.

Okay thanks. $20 quarterly for that seems pretty exensive, but I guess for email/FTP that sounds about right. I plan on putting up ads at the local grocery, the local computer shop, etc.

SEO? SERP? What? Overture?

seo - search engine optimization
serp - search engine results page

overture is another PPC (pay per click) advertisement system (similar to google adwords, but different sites)

google can and will ban you for seo. they have done so in the past.

also if you want more clients, post a promotion on hot deals section
just make sure it's hot enough or you'll get flamed for spamming/advertising.

don't spread crap like that, get it straight

google will ban for shady SEO tactics (comment spam, hidden links, cloaking)
normal SEO won't get you banned.

I'm offering web hosting locally, so I can charge those prices. The best part is people are willing to pay those prices if you find that niche market.

Otherwise if you try to compete online you'll have to offer $4.95/mo hosting, no thanks.
