best way/method to learn php & database?

Hi guys, just trying to figure out what's the most efficient method to learn php and database stuff? My main motivation is to advance my website making skills, which now depend mostly on javascript for interactivity. And of course just to know is half the fun...

I've googled the topics and I got tons of stuff and sites, but it's all a bit overwhelming. I know HTML and some CSS & javascript. Just assume that I know nothing about either php or database (mysql, etc).

thanks in advance for any help~

This isn't the right forum, but I would suggest the software-apps, etc fourm. But I would suggest if you have time a junior college class. If not head over to your Barnes and Nobles and skim thru their books. Check out Amazon.com on reviews on books and just sit down and learn it.

Then I would build up mini domain at home and pratice your snipets of code etc.
