best way for me to get 5.1 audio?

Dilemma- i have a soundblaster live value and a Boston Acoustics BA 4800 4-speaker setup in my Athlon 950mhz system with a Radeon LE video card/win2k.

Is there an easy way to get 5.1 DVD sound with my current setup? I can't understand why I can get 4 separate channels when I play Unreal Tournament, yet I can't get more than 2.1 channel sound when I play DVD's. Is there a software hack I can try?

I have a turtle beach santa cruz card (from dell) lying around, but I've had stability problems while playing UT. And, I haven't been able to get the sound to come out right when I play games or mp3s.

what should I do??

You can also probably ask that question in their forums, I can almost remember that exact question for Win2K.. You should also provide what software DVD player you are using..
