Best Way Carry Money on a Trip

one of my buddies is going on a trip to China and asked me what was the best way to carry money around since he was going to mutiple cities and didn't want to carry a bunch of cash on the plane or in China. i told him to use traveler's checks but now i'm thinking there might be a better way?
 
use credit cards to get cash advances

use debit cards to withdraw cash

both methods should convert your funds to the local currency for a competitive fee

other than that try and use credit cards when you can
 
travelers checks wont be very convenient.

your atm card will work in ATMs there. be sure to use Bank of China's ATMs. Any other bank, it's a crapshoot whether it's on the international network.
 
ATM. Travellers checks are a major hassle, most places don't accept them and a lot of places will charge a service fee to convert to cash.
 
Credit cards are the best bet & Mastercard in particular because it always converts directly into local currency.

some cc's will tack an additional 3% to overseas purchases. best to check before using them.
 
they make lil money belts that are made to hold money passports etc and go on under your pants i used those when i went to mexico, germany, england, belgium, france, and the netherlands. worked fine in all of those places
