my tap water doesn't taste so great. is there a good water filter thing to plug on the faucet that's under $100? never bought one before.

Best to get a reverse osmosis. Costs more though. That, or spend 30 cents a gallon and refill it from those machines.

PUR and Britta both make things that can go on the faucet, if you want a piticher britta PUR and Cullagan make them

and teh faucet ones only cost like 30$

Beware the cheaper (plastic) Brita ones, since I've read they easily lose their seal and break. I haven't read as much about Pur, though.

10 cents a gallon where I live. I buy 12 gallons every time I get it.

thoes machines.... i'm scared of. saw a news special about them and how they never get cleaned or their filters changed, yuck.

My pur faucet filter does the job. The water is acceptable, but doesn't taste anywhere close to a full reverse osmosis.

I'll definately look into those, thanks everyone. I've been buying bottled water from Wild Oats, which tastes awesome but gets $$. I just want something I can fill up my own water bottles with. Amazon here I come! 🙂

lol the only problem with the faucet ones is they tend to sag the faucet. 😛 plus the water takes forever to come out.

Actually, you're supposed to boil or filter or otherwise treat the water before drinking it regardless of where you are.

You'd better have decent water in the first place if you plan on going the "PUR" water filter route. I bought one of those units for $30. , hooked it up to my faucet & it lasted 3-4 days ! ! (about 10 glasses of water)

No more than a damn trickle of water came out of the filter after the 4th day !

Tossed that piece of crap !

I've got a PUR water faucet filter... doesn't taste anywhere near to reverse osmosis, but oh well, I guess I can live with it.

Best and cheapest way is to boil the tap water, then filter it using coffee filters. My mom used to do this before we installed reverse osmosis about 10 years ago.
When we installed reverse osmosis, we got a handy little guage that tests the amount of residue in the water. Normal tap water had a rating of 17, reverse osmosis returned a rating of 4, and boiling tap/coffee filter returned 0!
