Best Wares for Ripping/watching

I would like to backup all my old DVD's to my HDD. I would also like the option to burn them to a new DVD , if that's possible.

I am looking for freeware or something below 50 bucks.

If you do have a suggestion, please use small easy words as I am really a dolt when it comes to all this.

You have a few options depending on what format you want. A few of the easier options are below:

Imgburn - Rip the entire DVD to .iso
DvdFab - Rip just the movie, remove the extras and menu's, to .iso
DvdShrink - Rip to .vob folders

DvdFlick will burn any of the formats above back to DVD

If you want an ISO of the original DVD, uncompressed without all of the extras, just use DVD shrink.

You can "re-author" the DVD, drag the main movie and sound file over (no compression), and then just rip to ISO. It's really nice because once you mount the ISO and play, it simply starts with the movie. Saves about 2gb per disc too.

You'll also be able to burn it whenever you need. I may make a guide of this cause family members ask me all the time about it.

No one mentioned that most of the newer movies have copy protection (CSS encryption) so you will need something like

AnyDvd http://www.slysoft.com/en/anydvd.html

to make a copy.

All great rec's. As abaez said, DVD Shrink is fantastic at ripping the iso. You can rip the vob files with shrink as well, but that only requires more work if you just want to reburn them. You can just use ImgBurn for writing back to dvd as well.

Dont spend $ for this type of sw...these all do great work.

I have only had a few issues using dvd shrink with newer movies where copyright protection didn't allow me to rip it over. It is usually pretty good at bypassing it. However, with AnyDVD you won't have any problems at all with cp.
