best vista mce remote?

i'm in the process of purchasing my first tv tuner card and will be using it with vista media center. this is the card i am interested in: http://www.directron.com/mtvpemcer.html

a friend of mine has it and it works very well, however i have noticed that there are different versions of it out there for sale... a white box version with no remote, and a retail version (the above link) with a remote. i havent been able to really find any vista media center remotes out there at all, let alone a really good one. does anyone have one they can recommend? i believe the retail version of that card above comes with the remote & ir blaster listed below.

edit: actually the remote is a little different: http://www.aver.com/mpd/combopcie_mce+rb_lgview.jpg

You pretty much have to use the receiver pod that comes with the MCE remote. You should be able to pick one up on FS/FT for $25 or so . . . or get a new one from PCAlchemy or Newegg.

i guess i could just use my mouse for the time being.... i'm really surprised logitech or someone hasn't come out with a good vista remote for sale. anyone know of some new models that might be coming down the pipe? figured vista had been out long enough for such peripherals to be out there for sale.

just so i'm clear as well, it would be possible to buy a 3rd party ir remote with usb blaster and have it work in vista, right? i dont see why it wouldnt, but i figured i'd at least ask (i just want it to work/change channels in vista mce).

SVC an had a decent mce remote for around 30 bucks that had an IR blaster on it. Its the exact same one I got with averTV HD card.

Are you using other components with your system, like a TV, dvd player, reciever? You might look into the harmony remotes, they're a little expensive, but offer the best user experience out there.

i'm not using any other devices b/c i just intend on getting this card + a remote for "tv on my pc" (and the dvr/etc functions).

one of my friends actually has a harmony remote for his hdtv setup and it is quite nice. thats actually the reason i sort of expected something similar (a rf or ir usb receiver + nice remote type deal) to be available for a vista computer.

anyway, its no big deal... i guess i can just go for the avermedia retail package (link in first post) that has the decent remote with it.

from the picture, it looks like the exact same oem microsoft remote that is bundled with the retail home theater pcs from Dell HP etc. you can get that remote/usb hub from mwave for like $25, iirc. I don't know if its cheaper to get them separately or together though. I actually really like that remote. The buttons are at the right places and works well.

With the mce remote from ms, if i'm not mistaken you will not be able to turn your htpc on with it. The reason is the receiver connects to a usb port and while the pc is off or in standby there is no power going to the usb ports and thus the receiver will not work. You'll either have to keep your htpc on all the time or walk over and turn it on manually.

My zalman htpc case actually has the front panel and receiver getting constant power from the atx power cable so I can turn it on using the remote.
