I am looking to upgrade my son's BX chipset video card (currently running a Geforce2 Pro on a Celeron 600@900) and I can't find a good resource on what the fastest card I can put in there would be... Anyone know off the top of their head?

I know that it needs more than that, but I have no budget to upgrade anything else and I am hoping to work a trade, but I have no idea what I am looking for... thinking a Geforce 3 Ti or a Radeon 8500 might be the best bet.

Thoughts?

Not sure if either of those will work. You sure the mobo doesn't have AGP 2x? You'd need at least that for GF3 or Radeon 8500.

If it's a 440bx, it should do 1x/2x. I have a 9200se in my dual P3 600 box which is on a tyan 440bx board, I would imagine that the newer 9250s would work as well.

you would probably get away with using an early AGP 4x GF4Ti 4400 or 4600, Although I have successfully used a gigabyte 9700pro on my K6-3+ 550/Epox MP3G2 mobo combo, it even managed to get a tad over 3000 3dmarks in 2001, probably mega overkill by fun none the less:D

ive run agp 8x cards even in a 440lx box.

you can pretty much use any card you want, though seeing as the most you could possibly run in a box is a p4 1.4 on atualatin adapter, i would recommend no higher really than a 5700 agp or 5900 video card.

It is a 440BX (Abit Bh6), so it is AGP 1.0 (1X or 2X).

My newer boards will not physically fit and in reading up, it looks like 4X/8X boards are lower voltage and therefore keyed not to fit my MB.

I will look into the 9200/9250 and see if they will work. Thanks!
