Best video player for linux?

For Windows one of the best setups is Media Player Classic combined with MadVR.

What is the best video player for linux? (VLC Media player?)

Latest vlc added some nice improvements and it will probably play more right out of the box than anything else on Linux that I'm aware of.

i normally use vlc, but occasionally use mplayer when I don't feel like mounting a network share or when i have to pause and resume a lot, which for some reason gets me lots of weird echos on my netbook.

I vote for Totem...

Thank you everyone. I installed VLC. I had parole media player by default but it doesn't like anything I feed it. VLC is working great as it should.

Cheers
