I have a Radeon VIVO which has plain RCA input buy S-vid + RCA output. I wish it has S-vid *IN*....
Is it really necessary though? Would it improve VCR playback quality? (Or a game system like a Dreamcast?)
I would like to RECORD this input, so good recording in a standard format + compression is a good thing....

I found that the Radeon VIVO had some issues with recording, MPEG2 would not record audio along with the video. Only MPEG1 worked perfectly but that means huge files. :(

What card/solution would you recommend?

i believe there are inherent problems using MPEG2 capture.. why not just use TMPGEnc to convert your MPEG1 files to MPEG2 or SVCD

If your VCR has S-video output, it definately makes a difference, but I used the composite input of my Radeon VIVO to capture video for several months in-between different AIW cards and it is definately satifactory for decent captures.

As for the audio issue, your soundcard handles the audio capture not the Radeon card, probably just a driver issue, and I've capped alot of MPEG-2 with my VIVO and AIW cards with very good audio and IQ, infact the new MMC 7.7 offers a SVCD preset that produces compliant SVCD files that burn perfectly in Nero.

Keep your VIVO unless you're not satisfied with its gaming power, its plenty capable of decent captures.

Thanks for your tips, guys. I guess all I need is some decent video editing software.
