Best Video editing storage solution

First money is mostly not an issue.

I am looking for a drive solution for the OS (Windows 7 64bit) and programs. Heavy video editing and graphics work.

Looking at 2 of these:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820139132

plus a raid0 controller

The problem being I cannot find a raid0 controller on newegg without a ton of complaints.

As a side issue, for slow storage I was looking at 4 of these : http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136513
(currently the best $ / gb on new egg according to http://forre.st/storage

If you do go mechanical, you might want to check some benchmarks on the 5400RPM GREEN drives, compared to the 7200RPM ones.

get the samsung F2EG 1.5TB. much better drive IMO. mine are idling at 33 C in my furnace of a case.

ICH10R all you need for Raid 0. For slow storage, Hitachi 2TB. They just work but are not the fastest.

I can't find this in just a card, I don't really want to rip out the whole board just to add a better raid controller. Any suggestions?

Why is that?

For the OS and programs I am looking for speed and reliability.

For storage I am looking for lowest $/GB.

The ICH9R on there is fine for Raid 0. (I think I actually have one of those boards upstairs in a box somewhere).

Yeah unless you're going RAID 5 or 6 onboard ICH9R is fine, look at Areca or Highpoint Tech if you ever go down the RAID 5/6 route. I've 6x1.5TB 7200.11 Seagates (I know not the best performing) running in RAID 6 at around 500mb/sec reading for my 1080p video work.

I use Areca and Adaptec now (ok there are probably a few LSI based controllers around too). I would reccomend both. Highpoint is cheap, but is still not to the reliability point where I would trust data to them. Plus, if you look around an Adaptec 5805 + BBU lightly used would be $450 or less. Fast cards, well supported since they run in tons of datacenters.

Used to use a highpoint rocketraid card with mini-sas to infiniband on an addonics enclosure in raid5, with avid media composer - very fast.
