I haven't studied much on video cards in a long time. I'm still using an old viper 770 ultra. Any opinions on what is the best available now.

I just want something that does well for games/2d.

fastest available card right now is the geforce 3 ti500. it's basically a higher clocked geforce 3. nvidia is supposed to be releasing the 8500 very soon, which will compete with the ti500 for the top video card.
 
Best video card @newegg? I would have to say the VisionTek GeForce 3 Ti 200. $182 + $10 shipping = a $192 video card that can perform at original GeForce 3 levels. ETA @newegg is 10/15, which is tomorrow.

Another board with the same price/performance ratio (imo) is the Radeon 8500 @newegg - $261 including shipping, ETA is the 19th.

If you absolutly have to have the fastest board and have to put your order down today, Gainward's GF3 can be had for $283 (includes shipping) I would recommend waiting, for the Radeon 8500 should out perform the GF3, and the Ti 200 should perform very close to an original GF3 but for $100 less.

Don't want to spend much? Gainwards GeForce 2 Pro 450 is $129.00 w/ free shipping. OC it a bit and you have a GeForce 2 Ultra.
