I got such good feedback on my last question, I thought i would ask another. I am looking to buy a new video card for under 200. I will be using it for games, but want it to last for a little while(I am getting sick of replacing my cheap ones). Can anyone tell me about good cards they have used recently. I was looking at the visiontek Geforce 2 gts. Otherwise, could someone tell me good card manufactures and good chip manufactures. Thank you.

The ATI Radeon 32mb DDR Retail is a pretty hot video card. It's $200 at CompUSA plus a $50 rebate. $150 for that card is a great deal. That would be my #1 choice.

If you want to stick with NVidia, SG3d.com has the Leadtek Winfast GF2 GTS for $175. I'd get that rather than the evga.

Radeon has directx8 features and it's a bit faster in 32 bit. Most people who stayed away from Nvidia had problems with having to change drivers(sometimes you needed a diferent driver to run a game and that driver would not run your other games, that type of stuff)

Show me where the radeon has faster 32bit performace.

The Radeon is a good card, but the voodoo 5 is priced about the same and imo better.
Or you can get a creative gf2 on the FS/FT board for .$125

If you are lucky you can get the Radeon AIW for 200 around, maybe even the 64 MB...just look around, bummer is selling the 64 MB for 215.

I can get a Voodoo 5-5500 PCI for about @ $176. On my Abit BH-6 MB I have AGP 2X only...would it be worth it going to the V5 if I currently have a V 3-3000 ? My CPU is a Pent 2-400... thanks for any input...

LSD, since you insist on being rude I should bring it to your attention that the Radeon was faster than the GTS in 32bit at high resolutions when it made it's debut. Nvidia has since released drivers that put the GTS back in the lead. So far, rumors point to a late December release of 80xx drivers for the Radeon which should put things back in ATIs favor.

Of course this is ATI we're talking about so the drivers may see a delay.

Faster is not the issue when the
differences are like 10%. A bit like the 2D performance
situation which no one really cares about.

Visual sharpness, lack of ghosting, 3D rendering quality,
and DVD quality make for the best image quality.
Take one for a test drive in a store or at home.

It still amazes me that people base the entire merit of a video card on a Q3 or 3Dmark benchmark. Really is incredible.

the radeon has win2k driver issues... like they don't work. none of the cards are future proof, none are fully dx8 compliant, they are just compatible. from what i've read only 3dfx has full compliance lined up. but i dunno if thats for future products or not.

hey DecoY! Good to see you

for what it's worth, I'll vouch for DecoY. I ordered a 64MB GTS off him awhile ago. Great card for what it was. He's "good".

of course, I dumped it for the 5500. :)

looper, with a p2-400 , i dont think there'd be a real difference between a voodoo4 or voodoo5. You can probably get a v4 for around $95 now. AGP still for the most part doesnt make a difference on any card (well the transfer rates kinda do, a little, but the texturing out of ram is totally useless)

Hans007 and Decoy...So I should get a GeForce 2 GTS rather than the V5-5500 on my Pent 2-400 ?

looper, your CPU is pretty old, if i were you i'd buy a cheap card (voodoo4, gf2mx, radeon sdr) and get a celeron 533 o/c 800 upgrade or something like that instead of spending it all on a 64m geforce2 or something
