Best Video Card for Tualatin 1.3 gig.

I have just upgraded a 366 Celeron with a 1.3 gig T. Celeron. What would be the best video card for under $80. I may over clock it, if I do would it be better to get an AGP or PCI version?

Thanks for your help.

This is just going to be like a back up rig, no? I'd have to agree, some sort of GF3 Radeon 8500/9100 or GF4 4200 would be best here, perhaps even a cheaper Rad 9600 model as any of the cards should work well with the rig. More ram would help pump in some more life too, PC100/133 is pretty cheap these days.

Well... actually it is my main rig. (ok, so I'm cheap) What about a Geforce4 mx440 64 or 128?

If I were to upgrade to a new rig, what would be the best value? You know, I don't want to spend too much money! 🙂

Thanks again-

the geforce 4 4200 is your best bet, its a cheap card, and it will fit you like a cop with latex gloves for a caviety search!

440MX is a little slow. I would get a 128MB 9100.

I have a Cel-T 1.0A @ 1.33 and I figure I?m pretty well CPU limited with my 9100.

If you have a 1.3 Cel-T stock, you really need to overclock it as the 100fsb/memory speed is a killer as far as gaming goes. A P3 1.0, 133 fsb 256K L2 --- (essentially the same as a Cel-T 256K L2) ? is as fast in gaming as stock 1.3 Cel-T because of the much faster fsb/memory.

I'd recommend a GF3 Ti200, GF4 Ti4200 or an R9100. Even the GF3 would be very CPU-limited, though.
The MX doesn't even support DX8, so it couldn't run some of the games coming out these days.

Best Buy is still having the sale on 9600 non pro's for $95 minus a $25 rebate. Seems like a good buy if you can find one, if not than a geforce 4 ti 4200 or radeon 9200/9100/9000 would be good. I'd try to stay away from 64MB cards because many games use up more than 64MB of video ram.

Get the best ATI or Nvidia you can get. dont get an MX.

What do you use it for? Need something for gaming? allround?

My daughter has a 1.0 celeron tually at 1333 and I put an older radeon 32mb in it for her but she doesn't game. I like the ATI lineup now, the 8500 is a sweet spot if you can find a used one.

well I needed to know this as if it were just a backup rig then you wouldn't really need the absolute best for your buck... being it your main rig we'll want to get you something nice for your money...

depending upon the games you play a 4200 should do just fine for just about everything

i had an 8500 with a P3-S 1.26GHz Tualatin... it could pretty much play anything full at 1024x768... no AA/AF... the only thing that made it stutter was a DX9 game... NFSU. 🙂

Altair,

I highly recommend saving up $35 more dollars and buy a 9600 (not 9600SE) for $115 if you like to play games.
