I play a lot of HL2 at 1024 or 1280... I would like to be able to run AA, but not absolutely necessary. want a card that will offer me mid level performance for the best cost... my budget is about $150. I was thinking 7600gt?7900GS?

I am using a p4 3.0, 1gb memory, pci-e slot, and a dell 1707FP monitor.

recommendations?

also.. I dont really need this card right away, so if I wait until late sept to get a vid card that would be fine.

7600gt would fit your needs. The price would likely drop when the 7900gs becomes widely available.

this is not ontopic but the best card for the money is an x850xt in my opinion. hands down. new or used. used u can get them for around 100.

seriously that much?

I am coming from a 6600gt

stock there as fast as a 7800gt but they overclock MUCH better since its a 7900 class core instead of a 7800

I got mine running at 600/1800 with stock cooling. pretty much slaughters anything available atm within 100 bucks of what I payed for the card (I got it for 140 from woot)

if youre coming from a 6600gt it would be best to wait until the 7900gt is in your budget. The 7600gt doesn't offer a large enough performance increase to justify the price, IMO.

Plus, you can easily volt-mod the GPU to reach great speeds ;)

agreed with the guy who mentioned the X850XT... it's definitely the most bang for the buck.. though it's missing some feature support.. didn't care to read what.. cuz i jumped on the 7600GT BFG newegg deal ..... this is the online reviewers favorite budget card.
