Looking to replace my 6870 with a good video card. Budget is ~$300 for a really good card. I want this one to last(haha I know ) Is there a next gen of cards that are a lot better about to come out? Or is there something now that is a really good card for a decent price? Sorry, I am out of the video card loop completely.

Grab a TGTX 570 for about 200 to 280ish.

That is the best upgrade for you. Can you tell us what CPU you use and fill in all your signature so we can help you better.

If you can budget a 7970 get that IMO. I bought a 7950 and after overclocking it's slightly faster than a 7970GHz edition. But to be totally honest I'd rather have a 7970 & overclock it and blow my 7950 out of the water.
Don't get me wrong the 7950 is a sweet deal but I'd like a little more horsepower for crysis 3.

The only unlocked 7970 currently that isn't ghz edition is MSI 7970 power edition.

Also, at least half the GHZ edition SKUs are voltage locked as well.

I don't need to tell you that MSI 7970 Power Edition has an absolutely massive markup compared to cheap 7970s.

This leaves literally only the MSI 7950 Twin Frozer as the "best value for the money" card at the moment without sacrificing ANY memory bandwidth OR memory capacity.

Stock here-

You may get lucky with a 8+6 pin. Most, if not all 8+6 pin have 80%+ ASIC quality. The newer 6+6 pin are lower ASIC quality but still overclock well. I have a 8+6 pin and can game @ 1300/1800 with my new Arctic cooler. At that point it's a healthy lead over the 7970Ghz with a small overclock. If you don't care about overclocking then the Gigabyte WF3 has the best stock cooler and comes from the factory with a clock of 1000/1250.

Can you still not run that at max settings with that card?

Even a Titan oc or 690 oc can't play that game with avg 60 fps leave alone minimum 60 fps even at 1080p v high even without any AA.

If you care about value, why not a $250-270 Sapphire 7950? It may not get the top-end overclocks that a MSI 7950 could do, but it's also quite a bit cheaper.

7870 with Tomb Raider and Bioshock free. Trying to future proof a video card is a fools errand. It's not worth spending 300 on anymore.
