The G550 by Matrox offers the best 2D quality you can get and while its 3D speed is nowhere near that of the GeForce 2's and Radeon 8500's its not that bad either for a little dabbling every once in a while. It also has what I think is the best dual head support in the industry though I dont know if you can find a version of the 550 like a Radeon All-In-Wonder. For that you'd have to drop down to a G450 MAX (which is still good!).
If you want a little more 3D abilities I'd say go with the Radeon VE too. It does have the dual heat support there and most 3D features. Just make sure ya enable the options that are disabled by default.
