you don't need to spend anywhere near 400$ for good 2d video, a matrox g450 or g550 would do you just fine for photoshop and cost less than 100$.

Yeah, you won't need to spend near $400 to get a good card for photoshop. The same applies for video editing.

ah get a great videocard for 2d, like the ones i mentioned above. however, spending 400$ is just going to get you great 3d pefromace as well, and sence you don't seem to have any use for that it would be a waste of cash.

Matrox.

As far as video editing, outside of their seemingly unassailable domination in quality 2D output, Matrox also produces professional video editing solutions so I would imagine that any of their parts will work well with vid editing apps(I can't verify this myself, that is just a guess on my part based on what they do as a company).

keep in mind you'll be giving up all 3D gaming capabilities though.

The G400/450/550 has TNT level capablities and the Parhelia performs just fine. Really crappy for a $400 card compared to nvidia/ATI if you want a game card, but not too bad, just a generation behind. The performance similar to an old GeForce3, which certainly isn't "giving up all 3D gaming capabilities" as the GF3 runs anything on the market or even to be released in the near future just fine.
