Try taking it apart, wiping it clean and re-applying thermal paste. I had the same problem until I did this.

VGA silencer is junk, at least when used with 9800XT.
Its not junk, and he is using a 9800P. VGA Silencer will do him well.

I went with the ZM80C because I wasn't sure if the VGA S was easy to clean. What is it about about the VGA S that makes you think it's junk, if I may ask?

The VGA silencer is just kinda cheapish. The construction quality, fan noise and heatsink surface are all just kind of... meh.

yeah tehy need to be lapped but that is not that hard adn the construction is not that bad and the fan was jsut as quiet as any other fan in my case and probably quieter.

Installing the VGA Silencer is much much easier and cleaner than the Zalman heatpipes.

I've had both, using the VGA Silencer now, might go back to the Zalman. Noise is noise, but I don't know how effective it is at taking heat out at low speeds. Doesn't seem to do much for my overall system temps, but I'm sure the GPU is cooler.

It doesn't support 9800XT cards.

Nebor is a sound freak, it's not loud at all when set to "low" and since i have 4 other panaflo's running around the case, the VGA silencer runs unheard. Construction is solid, but some lapping could be done. I think the newer version made for the X800 graphics cards are made better.

I would say that even on the high setting, this thing couldn't be heard in your average PC. You MIGHT hear it in your PC, with 4 panaflo L1As if you listen for the higher pitched sound in the bunch.

It fits fine on XT if you mod the fan connector. The problem is, its performance is much worse than that of a stock 9800XT heatsink.

I don't think my card was anymore cooler compared to the stock heatsink with my vga silencer (I have rev 3) And it might be quieter, but I don't really remember hearing the stock fan either. IMO, if you aren't going to overclock, don't bother with anything and save some money.
