4850 just died, need a replacement asap. Ive seen them (and 4870s) sell for $40 new here and there but not seeing anything right now. What other cards should I be looking for, has anyone seen any decent sales on a similar performing card? I don't recall what the Nvidia equivalents were...would any new generation card in this price range match the performance?

Anybody see any super hot deals around $100? If Im forced to spend that much Id want to get a good performance upgrade. This card cost like $80 3 years ago.

I don't recall all the specs currently, but its an unlocked AMD quad at like 3.6GHz with 4GB DDR3 and I think an origional Corsair ~500w PSU.

This is actually for a good freind of mine, Im supposed to be the computer guy but Ive been living in a car for nearly 2 months...Im kinda out of it. Thanks in advance.

Used 5770 though I just sold mine for much more than $50 so maybe used 5750 is more realistic... $40 for a 5750 ought to be attainable.

Also, shouldn't your friend be helping you out with $50 instead. You're in a car for crying out loud, he'll live if he doesn't have a new card.

while the specs for a 5770 and a 4870 are roughly the same, the 4870 is slightly faster but runs hotter, uses much more power and is a bit louder.

i'd go with the 5770 if you can find one.

I did find a used 4850 for 35$ and a "new" for 45$ but I don't think either has more than a 30 day warrenty. Theyre also the single slot reference version...the card he had was a custom cooler but it was garbage little fan/heatsink on the core only, and most certainly why the card died. I did try to underclock it to keep it from overheating and crashing (didn't help much, I think the VRMs fried).

Anybody know how bad the single slot blower version is/was? I don't think noise is to much of a concern especially at this price, but I do want a card that can safely cool itself.

I bought a lightly used MSI hawk 5770 off forums about 2 months ago for $60 shipped. You should be able to find one in the $50-$60 range. Definitely dont pay any more than that. Its a great bang 4 buck card. Plays every game I need to at resolutions I play at.

Ive seen new 5770/6770's for $70-80AR many times as well so.....might just be worth it to wait for the next deal to pop up.
