I have a Hi8 Sony camera and would like to capture that video onto a computer. what the best quality and most economical way to do this ? I don't want to spend over 100

Bump

Looking into this too.

There's a ton of stuff and for someone just getting started (like I am) in video capture it is somewhat confusing.

Choices I am considering for MPEG2 Capture:

Dazzle digital video creator II ($250)

ADS USB Instant DVD ($170)

Getting a AIW 128 just for video capture and putting it on my secondary computer. (Just for the video capture: Do I gain anything on the AIW Radeon?)

Thanks!

are you looking at grabbing single frames, or the entire video?

single frame grabbing, get a Snappy from E*bay $5.00-$15.00

video capture - gets way complicated - look at Tomshardware.com under the "video primer" section should have all the info you need. true video capture requires large fast (usualy dual) hard drives, a fast machine, and hardware to do the encoding on the fly. Hi-8 is a very high resolution format at well. i've wanted to do this myself, and my conclusion was i would wait until i upgraded my computer (i currently have a pIII 500 mhz) and gto dual fast harddrives and a matrox rt2000 video capture system - not a small investment..i can't justify it now, and expect prices to drop.
