Been busy w/ work, etc and have not gammed for a while. And also away from the forums so here's my question...

I currently have a 2 year old 9700 pro and looking for more "eye candy"

Tks all,

Depending on what games do you play and how much are you gonna spend.
And what's your system specs? Cuz your processor might hold you back.
Your 9700 Pro is great for today's games, so you don't need a new video card unless you're gonna play Half-Life 2 and Doom III, if this is the case, then you don't have to buy a Video card right now, just wait and buy the card when these games come out, by that time you'll be able to get a better card for a better price, which means a better deal :)
Anyway, if you wanna buy a card right now, I think the X800 Pro will make a good performance jump for you (with all the eye candy of course)

RIGHT NOW is the x800 pro, in about 2 weeks, it will be the 6800 ultra, in about a month it will be a tie between the x800 xt and the 6800 ultra

I'm playing FarCry on an older, Geforce 128 meg card, the fx 5200 methinks. I just bought an ati 9800 pro 128 meg card and we'll see if there are improvements.

I'm kind of set against the purchase of the fasted cards out there but I like to see them come since all the others beneath them drop when they hit the market.

Happy gaming!

Well, right now the best card is the 9800XT. Availability wise, you can get it now and I think it will still play with top performance for the games coming out this year. I believe the tests of the Xstasy X800 Pro show that except for 1600 by 1200 res , theres only a 20-30 percent difference in performance with both cards scoring 100 frames and higher on the newest games except for far cry. But this is a mainstream card buyer talking here. However by the fall when both Nvidia and Ati actually can make enough of their next gen cards for the high end people to buy, it will be the 6800's or the X800's.

The best card so far that I've ever seen is the 9500 Pro / 9700 Pro, they've been able to keep up with the new games without any problems what so ever. Hell, if I had a 9700 Pro, I wouldnt really care about a X800 until I needed it.

Improvements? You could say that... A Radeon 9800 will run circles around a FX 5200. You're in for a big shock (in a good way)!

Enjoy! :D

I hate to say it, but any card above a 5200 is like a splash of cold water in the face. I was very impressed even upgrading to a 5700.
