Best vid card for my processor

episodic

Lifer
Ok I'm a budget man all the way. I have an ASUS KT400 Via Motherboard w/1 gig of pc2100 ram, 2x40 gig Samsung 7200 harddrives, and a Duron 1800 processor (at stock speed).

I'm using a Geforce III TI200 video card.

How much is that card holding me back? I don't need a shiny new card . . . I might sell this and pick up something a little newer on FS/FT.

What would be the best match made by Nvidia price wise? (think used prices). . .

Well I said I was not interested in new high end stuff. . .

Basically would a geforce 4 ti be worth the bucks? Or an fx 5600 ?

w/ a duron 1.8ghz I'd suggest a Raedon 9600 of some type it should be a large improvment over your Ti200 and not break the bank + w/ a Raedon 9600 of some type you won't be as CPU limited. Hope this helps... 🙂 (fyi if you don't use AA or AF much a GeForce 4 would be a good choice too)

Thanks, I was just wondering whether I should be content or not . . .

Unreal 2004 plays great and the rig still handles StarCraft . . .

I did download the new 'Thief III' demo other day and noticed it was not up to par for the job though . . .

Someone recently had a gf4 ti4200 64MB in FS/FT for $60, at that price it would be a great upgrade and a good match. If you can get a 128 MB version for under $100 it is about as fast as a 9600 Pro as long as you don't crank up AA/AF and/or go above 1024x768.

I tried overclocking best I could do was bumping the multiplier up to like 140x35

I held it there till I got a wireless nic that did not like the pci port above 33 mhz

I tried the jump to 166x133 and I think my ram was holding me back - a gig of pc2700 ram would be pricy though . . .

This box is a speed demon compared to the 700 mhz celeron I moved from with 128 megs of ram muhahahah. . ..

if thats the a7v8x via kt400 DONT BUY A RADEON CARD! YOU WILL HAVE FREEZING PROBLEMS AND LOCKING UP 4 EVER! STICK WITH NVIDIA IF THATS A VIA KT400 CHIPSET. TRUST ME AND THE THOUSANDS OTHERS.. I CAN POST A LINK IF YOU DONT BELIEVE ME. Get a nvidia.. have a good day.
