Best vid card for 2-D image editing and DVD playback in W2K?

Building new system (PIII on CUSL2) mostly for Photoshop, Word, Web browsing and would also like decent DVD playback. O/S will be W2K. ATI's bad rep for drivers scares me and I'm reluctant to buy Matrox now with G800 rumored soon. Any suggestions/warnings?

I was going to say ATi, but if you're scared of their drivers, I don't blame ya.

3dfx has great 2d quality (supposedly second only to Matrox), but their DVD playback is a little suspect.

G800 most likely won't be out until next year so don't let it being released any time soon scare you. I'm not to familiar with DVD playback on Matrox cards, but if their 2d image quality is anything to judge by, it'll be good.
