I'm looking to get Myst or Uru for a friend who is relatively new to computer games. She likes to solve puzzles so I thought that it's click navigation system would be easy to use.

So, getting to the point. Which game is the best in terms of story and puzzles?

Thanks!

URU's controls are HORRIBLE. Beyond terrible. I have URU and MYST V. Myst V is better.

Btw, wrong damn forum.

Even with a walkthrough I couldn't beat Riven. Man that game sucked. I don't even see the enjoyment of it. It's so freakin boring.

Agreed. I used to love the old Infocom text adventure games, but games like Myst and Riven leave me cold.

Visit location
Hunt for pixels that can interacted with
Move lever randomly
Visit 100 other locations to see if the lever changed anything
Repeat ad infinitum ad nauseum

Adventure games should be puzzle solving through logic, intuition or following clues. Myst and Riven took the brains out of it and reduced most of it to trial and error. YAWN.

Uru is terrible. Some stuff was hard to do even with a walkthrough. There's one level where ***SPOILERS*** you have to walk through some fireflies to get them to stick to you, then walk halfway around the level with changing weather, avoiding the rain cause the flies are scared of water, to a cave that has water in it so you can see. If you touch any water along the way the flies go away and you have to walk all the way back. Lame.

Buy Myst...install it and when you start...walk over and beat the game right then at the start. "Gee..that was easy!"

I actually liked Riven  Never played Uru or Myst V. My favorite was Myst III Exile, but given the reaction Riven got in this thread, I'm sure AT'ers hated Myst III also. *shrug*

I like all of them that I've played. I played Myst, Riven, and Exile. Beat the first too, haven't given much time to the last one. I loved the atmosphere in those games. Good stuff.

I liked Exile and Revelation (3 and 4) the best. Riven is HARD, and the new full 3D one is meh.

Myst IV is the best of the series by far IMO.

I thought MYST was too easy. Riven was hard but it could be solved. I got stuck on one of the first places to visit on Exile. I could not find a way off that place. Finally gave up. Quite disappointing.

Get original Myst, it's the easiest in the series and it's still the best IMO. Comes in 3 flavours, The original, 640x480 resolution I believe, Myst Masterpiece edition, same as above, only better graphics rerendered to a higher res and better sounds, and RealMyst, same as above two, only in 3D and comes with one additional world. Get either Masterpiece edition or RealMyst. If your friend doesn't like Myst he definitely won't like Riven/Exile, they are way too hard which takes most of the fun out of the game.
