Best Varmit Ammuntion?

Well, for small things, just take a powderless .22. It is powered only by the primer and is very quiet.

In my opinion, coyote are not varmin.

That's not going to stop a coyote. When you're running powderless or subsonic you sacrifice a lot of velocity and a lot of range. As opposed to dropping the animal all that would do is wound it and piss it off, both of which are bad. DO NOT shoot an animal unless you have every intention of dropping it quick. It doesn't always work out that way, but that should be your intention.

Like was suggested earlier in the thread, I'd go .223. You could even go with a .223 hollowpoint. That'd be plenty to take down a coyote or anything smaller.

Edit to show off "varmint" rifles 🙂

AGREED...

I use 7.62x39 out of an SKS Carbine for critter popping. I caught a rabbit in the back of the neck a few days ago - it's eyes literally POPPED OUT.
