Best Vanilla Ice Cream

I've been on a quest for the last year or so.

When I was young, my mom would take me to the ice cream store and get me a cup of vanilla ice cream. It was real good, but the difference was it had a very strong vanilla flavor. FABULOUS! I am trying to find a strong vanilla flavored ice cream. Anyone know of a real strong vanilla flavored ice cream?

BTW - Also trying to find the candy bar called "Milk Shake" which was produced on the east coast. Anyone ever heard of it? It was also FABULOUS!

You might want to try Ben & Jerry's. They always make the best ice cream. I'm not sure if Ben & Jerry's is available nationwide... but I'm pretty sure they are.

Personally, I like Dreyers Vanilla Bean... It has ground up vanilla beans in it, little teeny black specs. Very very vanilla flavored and creamy. My favorite.

Blue Bell's Natural Vanilla Bean cannot be topped. (except by chocolate syrup).

Oh, and the premium brand vanillas are not that great, especially B&J.
There flavored ice creams are great tho (esp. Chubby Hubby)

If it ain't Breyer's, it ain't ice cream. That stuff is the best. 🙂 Wangel, I've had vanilla bean ice cream which does have a very differnt taste to it... that might be more what you've had. Not sure who makes it, though.

Ben and Jerry's "World's Best Vanilla" is quite good, as is Haagen Daas' vanilla.

Both are the kind you eat and say "Holy Cr*p, this is vanilla?", especially if you are used to eating Baskin Robbins or some generic store bought stuff (Lady Lee?).

I like Bryers as well, but am kinda sick of it because it's all my mom used to buy. I like Ben & Jerry's quite a bit. Turkey Hill (kind of a local brand) makes a "Philadelphia Style" vanilla that is pretty damn good. It's like Bryers with the little vanilla bean specks but I think it is better.

Nothing beats homemade (not the brand). The best recipes are the type that you have to cook the mixture before you churn it. It's so rich that little pieces of butter actually form in the process. mmmmmmmm

Gotta go with Midnight Rambler. Nothing beats Homemade, especially if you use Mexican Vanilla. It's richer in flavor. Yummy...and it must be hand cranked and not by an ice cream machine😀

If i had to go with a store bought...I love Bluebell's French Vanilla....especially with a piece of chocolate birthday cake with white icing.....mmmmm....childhood.🙂

Princess😉

As for churning by hand or by electric, I bought one of those Cuisinart Ice Cream makers. They work pretty well, but you do need to give it a couple additional hours in the deep freeze if you want it to pack well.

I've been tinkering with a Lime Sherbet recipe that is almost perfected now ... quite tasty.

breyer's all natural french vanilla.

the bean is actually like a pod, what you are eating is the much more flavorful seeds of the pod. the pod also has taste, but not as much as the seeds. the seeds resemble pepper, you have to scrape it out.

i find it interesting that vanilla, chocolate and coffee are all from beans. 😛
