Best valued 24inch monitor

I've been on the market looking for a 24" Monitor. There appears to be popularity between the samsung and dell ultrasharp. Are there others that I should consider?

Also, at this point, what should be the optimal contrast ratio? 2000:1 or 3000:1?

To be honest, monitors are very much subjective like audio systems. What may look great to one person will burn another person's eyes out (as is the case with audio...where one person's favorite setup will give another person a headache). My suggestion is that you look at and try multiple LCDs until you are satisfied with one then stick with it (and maybe purchase another one down the road if you like it a lot for more desktop space). At this point, since Samsung panel lotteries run wild with craptacular Chimei and AU Optronics panels (in which case you might as well get a low-budget Acer), I would recommend looking at an LG panel.
 
sadly alot of the affordable non TN 24inch panels have gone the way of the dodo like the gateway fpd2485, the westinghouse 2400 and the others that were based on the same panels....

Even the officemax dealio soyo 24 is now a tn sadly.....

All these TNs makes me a sad panda..
 
generally photoshop at the most for editing (nothing commercial related). I'm an avid photographer and webdesigner by hobby. What's TN btw?

The other aspect of my purchase that i'm consider is also to use the monitor and swap out btwn desktop and laptop. Now the desktop i certain can handle the resolution, but i want to make sure that the laptop would look nicely on a 24" that doesn't stretch, etc. but i am sure there are options on the monitor/laptop to adjust that.
 
If you can afford it, get the HP LP2475w, good at games, great for movies and great for colour reproduction.

Fantastic value for money if you need a non-TN panel (see the first thread in this subforum about monitors for an explanation/comparison -> there are also plenty of reviews there).
 
If you don't need all the inputs, an LG W2452T looks good in games, and movies. Its about 75-100 cheaper than HP and and Samsung models when its on sale.
