Computer wont POST with the 9700pro in the AGP slot.
which really ticks me off since, ive only had that card about 4 months.
When I got back from vacation, i turned on the computer and the text was all scrambled.
Cycled power and got XP to load up and it was clear again, paid it no mind.
Went out to mow the yard came back to a blank screen, now no POST or anything.
Old GF2 AGP card works fine. I dont think its my PSU, its an Antec 350w and ive tried unplugging everything but the card and still no dice.

Tried clearing CMOS

the card is seated correctly. I cant think of anything else to try.

so whats the best value for a card now?

whats a good brand of ATI card, i got a powercolor this last time, and i dont think im going to give them anymore of my money if the card cant even last more than 4 months.

if you have to have one right now, i'd say a 9800p, or if you want a current gen, an x800pro. if you can wait just a bit for the vanilla 6800 or GT to be available in quantity, imo that would be the way to go.

just depends on how much you want to spend and how long you're willing to wait ;)

edit: actually it looks like a couple of places have some nv40's in stock:

BFG 6800 GT for $385
Leadtek vanilla 6800 for $303 shipped

the 9600 would be considerably slower than the card he's replacing...

its sounding like the 9800pro for 200 bucks it is.
thanks for the responses.

i guess nots not *urgent* since im making due with the GF2
but i havent even attempted UT2k4 or BFV on it
i have a feeling it would piss me off.

as far as brand? how is MSI? im not a fan of their boards at all, but are the cards okay?
im pretty sure sapphire has a decent rep too.
either way, im not voiding my warranty this time.

be on the lookout for an arctic cooling vga silencer rev2 for cheap on FS/FT.

The thing is, if u can wait a day or 2, or if those links that Cainam had above work and the cards are in stock, the 6800 will stomp the 9800 into the ground! Ive seen many sites have it on preorder for less then $300 and i expect that to be the market value rather then the $300+ that other sites are charging for it. You really should consider it an option because it will be much more futureproof then the 9800 option.
