Best value 2.1 speakers?

essential

Senior member
my friend wants to get a new pair of 2.1 speakers. she said she's willing to spend $100-$150, so i automatically tell her to get the klipsch promedia 2.1, but when i get to thinking about it, she doesn't need to spend $100-$150 on speakers.

she's not a gamer by any means, all she does is listen to mp3s once in a while, bands on myspace, and normal windows noises. so my feeling is the klipsch, as good as they are, are overkill, and she could save money and still get a good set of speakers.

can anyone recommend me a good set of 2.1s in the $50-$60 range maybe? if nothing else i can always tell her to get the klipsch, but if there are any good value alternatives, i'd like to know.

thanks.

^ good idea.

Otherwise, Logitech's Z-3/4 (I think they updated it), or if you really want to go low budget, the X-230.

Yeah doesn't sound like she cares much about sound quality, or even has the ability to appreciate good sound.
Just give her some cheap speakers. Any brand should be fine.

yea, i'm thinking to just go with the promedia's now either way. it sucks too, they are around $150 now everywhere except ebay. last time i bought a set they were on sale for $99 at best buy, and i was able to just drive and buy them, no shipping.

I just went to Costco and got a very decent KLH set with Sub-Woofer for $75, then hooked 'em up to a Radio Shack stereo amp patched to sound card Line Out and it is great. Sounds better than speakers sold to computer users at marked up prices. For 2.1, good audio/stereo speakers are darn good. And used ones are even better - like Advent, JBL, etc.

Sheesh! Wish I could. I have had it about 6 years. I find no ID plates on any of the three components. They are black. Side speakers are about 8 inches tall, 6 inches deep and 4 inches wide - black wood. Woofer is about 18 inches by 8 inches wide by 12 inches tall.

The woofer is under the desk with the bass reflex port aimed at the all and about 3 inches from it. The side speakers are on shelves about 5 feet above the ground and about 8 feet apart. It fills the room nicely with good stereo effect.

I would look for things like this in a used audio store - yard sales even!
