Best V card for OpenGL app?

Depends on what type of Opengl. Game dev? Modeling? Volume rendering?

I just ordered a 6800GT PCIe for work, I use VTK for some stuff.

for video games, Nvidia still has a slight to huge lead in that department. 6600gts will cost $140, 6800 $160-$220, 6800GT $250-$$300 6800ultra $350-$400 7800GTX $600

pci-e costs more than agp usually.

I would say get a 6800GT. It has the second best price to performance ratio in it's class. It performs on par with the X800XL which is usually cheaper by a good bit and a better buy, but since you are looking for OpenGL performance(which is where the 6800GT would pull ahead) then go for the 6800GT.

I don't think performance is what he wants, opengl game dev is more about documentation, drivers, 3rd party apps, etc.

wow! Could you guys suggest the best OpenGL (video game) performer for around $150.
anything more is out of my budget.

Get a card with the NVidia 6600GT Chip. Both AGP and PCIe versions are available for $150-$160.

It's a very good card for the money.

EDIT:
Also, I did CAD work (Pro/Engineer) using one for several months while waiting for a Quadro card. The 6600GT runs CAD extremely well, so it should do OK for develpment work as well as for playing games.
